Sewing Bees are back

We are very pleased to announce that, thanks to Karen’s hard work, Kiama Council has agreed to let us run sewing bees at Iluka Tennis Club house again.  However, as we are all very aware it will not be in the same format that we had pre- COVID-19.

Sewing Bees will be held on a Wednesday and Thursday from the 1st July 2020 onwards. The numbers will be limited to 5 bagger spots and a supervisor.  These spots will only be available to R3 members.

There will be two time slots per day –

WEDNESDAY 9 – 11am (early spot) and 11.30 – 1.30pm (late spot)

THURSDAY 9.30 – 11.30am (early spot) and 12-2pm (late spot)

You will be able to book your spot via the R3 website booking page.

Before booking please make sure that you have read the Kiama Boomerang Bag COVID-19 safety plan.

PLEASE DO NOT come down to the Iluka Tennis club unless you have a confirmed booked spot.

While we are most grateful for fabric donations we cannot and will not be accepting any fabric donations until further notice.

COVID -19 and Sewing Bees

Statement from Kiama Boomerang Bags in regards to COVID-19 and twice weekly sewing bees on Monday 16 March at 1.30pm

Each volunteer has to make their own decisions regarding the extent of Social distancing to be protected but at this point our sewing bees will continue until further notice. Naturally we will revisit any decisions if the situation evolves.

Those returning from overseas holidays must self isolate for 14 days but we can arrange to deliver sewing to them, if required, and anyone else who chooses to stay away.

We would like to remind those attending to practice safe hygiene by regularly washing hands, avoid unnecessarily close contact and of course if you are symptomatic in any way please stay at home.

We will ensuring that hand sanitiser and soap are available at the tennis club house.

Library Bags for Mogo School

Thank you to the wonderful ladies who have made library bags for Mogo school – and a big thank you to Robyn who embroidered the children’s names for each bag.  We included a few blank bags for new pupils and have popped in a few Boomerang Bags for the staff.

Kiama Boomerang Bags hold sewing bees on a Wednesday and Thursday each week from 9.30am onwards.  More information can be found here.

It’s on tomorrow

The wonderful ladies will be sewing up a storm tomorrow making Boomerang bags from 9.30am onwards. Call in to see what’s going on, no sewing skills needed. You can also pick up some ‘sew at home projects’ – your own shopping bag or a pouch for orphan Joey.

Successful Wildlife Sewing Bee

A big thanks to everyone that attended the wildlife sewing bees hosted by Kiama Boomerang Bags yesterday and today (14 and 15 Feb 2020). A great response by volunteers that resulted in another 100 pouches being completed for WIRES carers. We still have kits and fabric available for anyone interested in making a few at home. Thanks Kiama Woolworths for donating our wonderful lunch today. It was much appreciated by all (including our guest tennis players).
